. . .I’m on a LONG JOURNEY to health & fitness . . . In February of this year (2012) I think I finally faced the fact that my weight was affecting my health and my future. I realized that at 53 if I didn’t do something significant, it was only going to get harder and harder to do so. . . and I really don’t especially like “hard”. I prayed a lot and joined Weight Watchers (for the third time) weighing in at 240.8. Something was different this time, though, and as time passed I found myself really embracing the notion that this way of life was for me for the rest of my life, instead of focusing on how I could just get through this. Along with the Weight Watchers program, I started walking for an hour, 5 times a week. Then in May I became aware of a 10 AM Saturday Boot camp at Innovative Results (Irvine) where all the proceeds go to helping children all around the world. A friend invited me and that’s when all the fun started. It was a really safe way for me to check it out. My first boot camp I was down 19.4 lbs so I thought I was in good enough shape to give it a try. It was really hard and I soon discovered just how out of shape I was! The trainers were encouraging and inspiring and kept me from feeling like I failed in any way and I did more than I ever thought I could. I promised myself that I would continue to go every Saturday that they offered it. Over time, I got much stronger and more capable and grew to appreciate the workouts. Then came the invitation to the “Advanced Fat Loss Techniques Workshop” at IR and of course I had to go. At the workshop we learned a lot about eating, weight & exercise and it was announced that IR was rolling out a month-long challenge where the participants would engage in an exercise and meal plan. To determine accurate results, participants were dunked to determine body fat before and after the challenge. Well, I knew this was an amazing opportunity for me so I signed up, began working out at IR 3x a week and followed the meal plan. I cannot believe how adding 2 more workouts a week changed the shape of my body and increased my weight loss in such a short amount of time. The workouts are unlike anything I have ever done before, they’re brilliantly planned to increase balance, mobility, strength & fitness and the workouts change every time. You never know what to expect and you’re never bored. At the end of 4 weeks, I was down -9.3% body fat and had -22.5 lbs of fat mass. IN 4 WEEKS! My overall weight is now down 45.4 lbs. I have signed on to continue with the 3x week workout and will continue to go weekly to my Weight Watcher meetings and am determined to become a lifetime member of WW when I reach my goal weight. I have had so much encouragement and help from all the IR staff, my family & friends! My co-workers even shared the meal plan with me at lunch. I am very thankful for the IR family of trainers & co-exercisers there and consider this entire process a blessing! THANKS IR -- And . . . if you’re reading this and thinking that you’re too old or too out-of-shape to make changes and get fit – take heart! If I can do it, YOU can do it! Make up your mind and just show up! That’s what I did and what I am determined to continue doing! JUST SHOW UP!
